Teaching Philosophy
I believe that every child has the potential to be a successful learner. As an educator it is my role to support that learning by creating a safe, flexible and comfortable environment in which engaging learning activities take place. I believe that embracing cultural and lifestyle differences within a classroom help to create an environment that is respectful to the individual learning needs of every student. Learning about each child’s background, home life, what level of learning they have achieved, and what their unique learning abilities are will be essential to individualizing their learning experiences as much as possible.
Students acquire more knowledge when content is presented to them in a personally relevant way. Students in my class will participate in activities that use principals of engagement for deeper learning, for example; collaboration, choice, using a variety of interesting texts, and build on their prior knowledge. Students will be allowed to have choices in their learning whenever possible. I believe that learning can and should be fun, regardless of the content. Today’s world is becoming more and more technology-based. It is part of my responsibility as a teacher to prepare students for everyday technology use and therefore my students will participate in learning activities that are technology-based.
I will teach my students to have confidence and know that they can tackle any challenge presented to them. I want them to have respect for the learning process and respect for others. My classroom will be one that respects the rights of individuals and embraces the diversity of all. The process of creating classroom rules will be one of collaboration where all students will get to voice their feelings about how one should act in class. Students will also help to decide the consequences of misbehavior. The rules will be clearly stated and consistently enforced.
I believe that all students deserve access to educators who are experts in what they teach. I know that in everything I do I strive to give 110 percent. I hope that my passion and commitment to learning will be an inspiration to my students.
